Watching buck upon the years of 1994 and 2000 and seeing my Granddaughter accepted into Australian community is a milestone for me and the stories will go down and travel through generations for many years to come. We were forced to live lowly and out of pocket off the land. We had nothing. At the beginning of the 1900s harsh legislation such as the Immigration Restriction process 1901, known as the White Australia policy, resulted in the expulsion of many southwest sea Islanders. A few yard of us were permitted to remain and today north Queensland is home to more than 20,000 of our descendants. 1953 came along and at 80 years of age, my time expired, I now sit here in heaven to find out my family, grow up and face the turmoil from the selfish Australian government and community. When 1980 arrived, there was good news all most for us.

An Evatt foundation report which was initiated by some South Sea Island leaders concerned at the deteriorating social and economic blank space of our community, made the Federal Government aware that Australian South Sea Islanders had become a forgotten people in Australias multicultural society. In 1983 the Human Rights and Equal chance Commission released a report called The Call for Recognition. The Commissions conclusions included that the islanders were one of the poorest companys in Australia with a century of a lot of discrimination and harsh treatment.
