The Perils of World War I What a cruel thing is contendfare: to separate and destroy families and friends, and mar the purest joys and happiness God has disposed(p) us in this world; to fill our hearts with hate instead of love for our neighbors, and to devastate the fair face of this fair world (Robert E. Lee, letter to his wife, 1864). Whether it is the people reading about it in history books, in the news, or the actual soldiers themselves, the notion of war leaves a sour taste in many mouths. The dour causalities leaving their mark on the land where they were left understructure and in the hearts of their respective family members are a disgusted image and empty void that must be suffered. Unfortunately, these and more than disturbing perceptions are linked almost directly to war to the point that viewers seeing it on the news straight off are almost numb to them, simply flipping to the next line of merchandise saying, what a shame. Many literary novels have been scribed all depicting a personal experience that one had very encountered or a fictitious character played in historical context. Three of such novels are, The Living Unknown pass by Jean-Yves le Naour, excerpts from All peace of mind on the Hesperian Front by Erich Maria Remarque, and excerpts from Not So Quiet: Stepdaughters of War by Helen Zenna Smith.

In each of the aforementioned novels the condition delves into the protagonists world and gives the reader a sensory faculty of what it was like to be going through that time, a warzone.
