NASA and JPL face serious challenges in experience management because of two main factors. One is, most of the senior and undergo workforce is nearing retirement and second is, after Goldins slaying of Cheaper, Faster, Better mandate, there had been a serious impact on knowledge transfer and sharing between experts and projects. The result focuses on managing the tacit knowledge held in experienced personnel than on the IT initiatives such as Internet based databases and portals few of which were already in place in NASA. Although the initiatives were well planned, obstacles in KM arose in regard to changing the organizational refining. KM crisis occurred collect to its inability to capture, store and share the experiential knowledge and factors of failures and successes foot each project. Another factor contributing to KM crisis was the privatization of knowledge because of the competition among centers and funding issues.



For KM to be successful, several initiatives were create which includes Project libraries, Internet based KnowWho directory, Technical questions database, developing standards, individualised Knowledge organizers and legacy reviews together with support to cultural replace crossways the agency.
One key take away is that the case provides the importance of foreseeing and identifying the key factors for knowledge management crisis in firm.
