It includes the processes, roles and policies (for example, security and privacy), standards, (for example, selective information quality) and metrics that ensure the effective and efficient use of information in enabling an organization to achieve its goals.
Justification:
Organizations learn been talking about information governance for quite a few years, but it is only now that we see much widespread understanding of what it takes to accomplish information governance. This is the first succession this term has appeared on a Gartner Hype Cycle, but it is already closing in on the Peak of Inflated Expectations. It has been driven there by catastrophic events such as the Deepwater prospect disaster, in which the gathering of information for litigation is on a scale never seen before, along with an ever increasing volume, velocity and variety of information, such as that generated from social media.




As enterprises examine to manage information demanded by litigation and regulation for assay and cost control purposes, they also seek to govern information and manage it to create business value. These messages have finally disjointed through the older mentality that many had about storage being inexpensive and that it was easier to simply keep information than to invalidate it, or that search technology would allow enterprises to forgo the movement and expense of organizing themselves and devoting resources to governance.
It is now clear that older ways of mentation have not done anything to solve the problem of vast information growth, along with an increase in risk, as thoroughly as new possibilities to gain business value.
